Going going (almost) gone

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Our superb Amazon rewards offer is almost at an end – just a couple of days left now. If you don’t know already (where have you been?) BView will reward you with a £10 Amazon voucher for your first 20 reviews. There’s even a chance of earning up to £50 if you’re one of our super reviewers. Our offer expires at midnight on Thursday 31st July, so make sure you’ve got your reviews in before then. Any reviews submitted after this won’t be counted, sorry.

Before you get writing, please take a couple of minutes to have a read through the full details (it’s important to make sure the reviews you write qualify) and then head on over to have a look at our top users page for a bit of inspiration.

Once your reviews are in, visit my page on BView and get in touch – I’ll check out your reviews and let you know when you’ll get your voucher.

That all there is to it – you know what to do…

Swish New Search

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

As I mentioned in my previous post, a new version of BView was launched last week. The most obvious changes were to our search results pages; we decided they looked a bit too plain so decided to start making use of some of the excellent content contributed by our users:

  1. If a business has been reviewed or has pictures added to its profile, we’re including them in the results and we’ve tweaked the sorting options to try and make it easier to find the best result. We also made the map bigger to make it easier to use.
  2. Each town and classification now allows you to suggest a description that we should display at the top of the page. Check out the description Joy W sent us about Sheffield. We’ll be slowly adding these in ourselves, but if you’re an expert on a particular town or classification, please send something in! You can also suggest links to other relevant sites. Look on the right hand side of Brighton’s hub page. It now has links to their local theatre, Royal pavilion and football club. Why not pick out something you know and send us over a paragraph of text, plus some links, so that others can share in your insider knowledge?

As ever, if you’ve got any comments or suggestions for BView, please get in touch, and don’t forget that throughout July we’re rewarding our users with £10 of Amazon vouchers for their reviews*.

*See the BView rewards page for terms and conditions.

That’s all for now… please keep those reviews coming.

More content than you can shake a stick at…

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

..even a really big one.

It’s been a busy fortnight for BView, we’ve added well over 1,000 new users, and thousands of reviews (Nearly 10,000 at the last count). Not to mention that we also launched a new version of the BView site earlier this week – but more about that in my next post.

With the amount of reviews you’ve all written, it makes me wonder where you all get the time to find these places… we’re not complaining, we’ve got loads of Amazon vouchers burning a hole in our collective pocket and they’ve got to go somewhere, so if you haven’t already then sign up and get writing. Ten quid for 20 reviews… bargain.

To give you an idea of the amazing quality of the reviews being added, here’s three of my favourite reviewers so far…

  • Fiona T in Gateshead: Everything from hotels to zoos with some restaurants and pubs thrown in for good measure. The quality of each and every review is first class. If I’m ever in the area I know where to go (and a few places to avoid).
  • Joy W in Sheffield: Not far off a century of reviews, some great titles and excellent photos. It’s not all about quantity, the quality is outstanding too.
  • Suki B in Milton Keynes: It seems Milton Keynes isn’t just concrete cows and roundabouts. Some excellent reviews, everything from cookie monsters to charity shops.

You can see the top 10 BView users here, updated daily – Jim L’s been on top for way to long now; I think he’s getting a bit complacent.

We’re always looking for feedback on the site so please get in touch with your comments, suggestions or questions and if you haven’t already; check out our Amazon voucher promotion to get some Amazon cash for your reviews.

That’s all for now, in my next post I’ll tell you all a bit more about the new BView features we released this week.

BView and Trusted Places Announce Local Sales Partnership

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

We’re delighted to announce today (July 1) a new local sales partnership with Trusted Places, the social network focussed on local reviews.

The combined offering is the first collaboration of its kind in the UK and places the two companies in a unique position to benefit from the growing local, online advertising market. It presents a viable and cost-effective alternative to traditional directory players, at a much lower cost.

The joint offer is a combination of free and premium access to BView and Trusted Places company profiles that allows business owners to:

  • Manage their online reputation via their business profile on both www.TrustedPlaces.com and www.BView.co.uk gaining access to both sites’ growing audiences
  • Add information including business description, key contacts, menus & photos to their profile
  • Promote special offers exclusively to the TrustedPlaces and BView user community
  • Increase their footfall through advertising around targeted postcodes on both sites

We think this partnership adds real value to businesses on BView and are excited to be working with the passionate guys at Trusted Places.
