November's Fashion Challenge

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

To celebrate the Fashion Awards which are taking place this month,  the cheesecake competition topic is ..fashion and beauty!

Coco Chanel once said, ‘fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.’ We want you to share what fashion means to you!fashionimage

What’s your style? Do you have a favourite vintage store? Which high street shops do you think are a hit? Which online stores are a definite miss? Share your advice and experiences with the BView community and you could win a delightfully delicious cheesecake from The English Cheesecake Company!

Entering is easy, all you have to do is login to BView and find the company you wish to review.

How we choose the winning review and what we look for:

- a catchy title

- a detailed description of your experience

- pictures! It’s fashion so we would love to see some pics with your review

Not sure where to start? Here are some names that you could review Asos, Body Shop, Marks & Spencers, Selfridges&Co, MAC, French Connection, Topman, Topshop or you could check our Online Health & Beauty categories for more ideas! You can find more help on review writing here.

Submit as many reviews as you like but don’t forget to send us a copy of your reviews so we know you wish to enter: community@bview.co.uk.

October’s cheesecake winner

Finally the boys beat the girls! The winner of last month’s topic on technology is William F from Brixham. In his review titled ‘SVP- Super Value Products’, William advises ‘if you buy media mail order then I would recommend them, as they are efficient and not expensive’ but highlights as a local he isn’t impressed that he can’t just collect his goods anymore.

Congratulations William! Enjoy the cheesecake, which you should find on your doorstep soon!

Your views on computer companies + Cake= Cake 3.0

Monday, October 6th, 2008

In Kat’s absence we have been ordered to write on her behalf and tell the BViewers that this month’s cake competition is dedicated to computers and PC Software.

You can write about how much you love your computer and how wonderful the people who helped you to set it up are! Alternatively you can write about the pains of your technological journey. You can even write about the software you are using and show us some pictures of your creations! It’s really up to you!

Pssst…..here are a few tips for what Kat looks for:

o    Photos (you’ll win extra super points if we get photos of you with your technology!)
o    Witty Titles
o    Dialogue in your text
o    A description of your experience with the business
o    If you are a secret geek, you’ll gain extra kudos for submitting an entry for the industry expert section of Computers and PC Software along with your review!

No need to be shy if you are new to BView, you can still sign-up and join in the fun!

Contest closes on October 31st and remember you will also be entered for the iPhone Prize Draw.
You can enter as often as you like, but make sure you share your review with kathryn.neville@bview.com (or send her a link to your review)

The Winners for Cake 2.0: One for the Animal Lovers

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Well it’s been a hard month for me.  People have really started to step up and write some great reviews for my contest!  So, I’ve decided to award two prizes, one for the overall best review, and one for the most unique experience!

Top 3 (Overall)

And the winner is…

Bonnie! Bonnie Torp wrote a fantastic review of Pennard Practice Ltd called “Our Cat came home Toothless!”

Bonnie's Cat!

ne ne ne ne ne, raspberry!

It’s a touching ‘tail’ of her cat’s visit to the vet. She adds great photos of her adorable kitty, and adds a lot of good info about the practice. Great tone to her review!

In close second is Alix C from Glasgow! Her review of Pets at Home describes her adventure to purchase a new hamster. Her tone is playful, she adds some great photos (including the little guy playing in a cardboard tube), and you can sense just how much she loves her new hamster. She also gives the price of the products she purchased, but didn’t go into detail on other products unfortunately… If she did, it would have been a perfect review!

In third place- Joy, Joy, Joy! Your reviews are always so thorough. Joy W’s review of Graves Park Animal Rare Breeds Centre is a great read… and the pictures of chickens are so cute. Well done Joy!

Most Unique

Most reviews are for the same sorts of things, so when I actually read about a really interesting store or concept, I’m hooked!

Prize for the most unique animal experience goes to Elizabeth C. Her review of The Pigeon Fancier has a great title, and a hilarious, quirky tone. It makes me want to check out this store! (Elizabeth wrote a few other animal reviews… all of them gave me a chuckle! I recommend reading her short but sweet review of Pets Parlour as well.)

Congratulations Bonnie and Elizabeth!  Prepare for cake!
(… and thanks to all the other entries… It was very hard to choose!)

Details of the next competition coming soon!

Cake 1.0 is over. Now releasing Cake 2.0

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Hi there. It’s your friendly neighbourhood kat here, Thanks for all your entries to our first site-wide cake competition! The winner is…

Joy W from Sheffield for her review of Gullivers Eco Park Ltd entitled, “Not for genuine Lilliputians (toddlers)”!

Loved the title, and you can really sense Joy’s rage at her little ones being slightly too tall to fit under the 90cm restriction for getting in for free. She describes the venue beautifully, and goes through the entire park, describing eating and toilet facilities. Great review Joy!

In close second, we have Kelly R from Newbury!

She wrote a review entitled, “Definitely not exhausting going here!” of Ats Euromaster Ltd. I loved her ‘car pun’ in the title, and it is an extremely well written, and extraordinarily detailed review. She tells you what products they sell, how the service was, and by the end of reading it, you are left feeling as grateful as her for the excellent service!

Hope you enjoy your cake, Joy! (and Kelly, I will be sending you a little prize in the post soon as well! Hopefully both will take some photos so we can show them to the rest of you.)

And now for next month…

Write your reviews of Animals!

That’s right, write anything about animals. It could be a pet store, farm, zoo, or just your local convenience store that happens to have a dog that sits on the counter. Here’s a little inspiration… Huw L’s review of Mudchute Park & Farm. As you can see, he has a great title, and, most importantly, fantastic photos and lots of personality in his review.

  • Contest closes on September 30th
  • You can enter as often as you like, but make sure you share your review with kathryn.neville@bview.com (or send me a link to your review)
  • I give extra marks for photos, witty titles, and dialogue in your text.
  • Make sure you give relevant information about the business as well!

If you need some more inspiration, I will send you photos of fuzzy animals. I’m quite partial to goats.

And, as promised in the email current bview members receive, here’s your animal haiku!

  • bah neigh rawr moo oink
  • Write your animal reviews
  • But please in English

P.S. If you can write a better haiku, post it on my wall!

The Best UK Football Grounds

Friday, August 15th, 2008

(and a BView challenge)

Love it or hate it, there’s no avoiding it. The football season is underway again. The Premier league kicks off tomorrow afternoon, and then it’s the beautiful game, non-stop for nine months (at last).

From Arsenal to Yeovil, we’ve got all 92 English league teams, and the twelve members of the Scottish Premier listed on BView, so lets have your feedback. Which ground is most accommodating, which has the best atmosphere, and which will leave you feeling ripped off?

The current standings see FA Cup winners Portsmouth topping the BView ratings, Joel P reckons Fratton Park has a great atmosphere and excellent fans (if you can get a ticket). Close behind are Hartlepool United , Yeovil Town , and the mighty Arsenal. Manchester United and Chelsea just about sneak into the top 10.

Let’s hear what you’ve got to say, find the clubs you’ve visited and leave your review.

At BView we’ve got three Arsenal fans (myself included), a Spurs fan (there’s no hope for some people), and even a Manchester United fan. As we quite like our football we’ve setup a BView fantasy football league on the official Barclays Premier League site. We’re always looking for healthy competition, so we’re inviting you to setup a team and join our league. Just register on the site, choose a team name, and select your winning eleven (or let the site pick a random team for you). Once your team’s created, all you need to do is click on the “Join League” option and enter our league code (1029829-183770). We’ll come up with a prize for the overall league winner at the end of the season (unless you’re a Spurs fan). Bring it on.

If football really isn’t your thing, don’t forget that BView still wants to give you cake, or if Amazon vouchers are more your thing, check out the August rewards scheme.

Get in touch if you’ve got any questions.
